Ever watch an apple turn brown after biting or cutting into it?

That’s Oxidation!

Green Tea – 0% Oxidation

Oolong Tea – Varying levels between 0% and 100%

Black Tea – Closer to 100% Oxidation

Black Teas are purposely bruised in the same way you can bruise an apple and cause it to brown.

The oxidation level influences the health benefits and flavor profile.

Oolong Tea is only partially oxidized, allowing it to contain the health benefits of both green and black tea;

  • Reducing Heart Disease
  • Reducing Inflammation
  • Lowers Cholesterol
  • Antioxidants as Polyphenols

Types of Tea: When Should I Drink Green Tea, Oolong Tea or Black Tea?

New to Tea or Self-Proclaimed Expert; when should you be drinking green, oolong or black tea?

12 Types of Tea Sampler Pack, I very highly recommend if wanting to learn more, try new and experiment.

Favorites 12-Variety Loose Leaf Tea Sampler with Green, Black, Oolong, and Pu-erh Loose Tea Assortment (12-tin Variety Pack); Makes 250+ Cups of Tea

Green:

  • Usually the lowest caffeine
  • Most mild, sometimes sweet
  • The All Day Drink

Oolong:

  • Mid-range to varying caffeine
  • Mild and sweet
  • Floral and aromatic
  • Afternoon to early evening tea

Black:

  • Most / Highest caffeine
  • Generally bold flavor
  • Strong infusions
  • Morning / “Wake Me Up”
  • Too much caffeine for bed and night time

Green Tea

I, personally, treat green tea as my “anytime and anywhere” tea. Pretty there’s a pretty good range of green teas, especially across Japanese and Chinese tea culture. Think Japanese Matcha and Sencha vs Chinese Longjing and Gunpowder.

If performing multiple infusions like a Gongfu tea ceremony, you’ll notice the evolution of flavor and aroma from sweet green to a smooth yellow.

Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder, Japanese Premium Culinary Grade, Unsweetened & Sugar Free – USDA & Vegan Certified – 100g (3.52 oz) – Perfect for Baking, Smoothies, Latte, Iced tea & Weight Loss.

Oolong Tea ( qingcha tea)

Oolong is my favorite tea because of the versatility. Widely regarded as an “inbetween tea“, Oolong has both properties of Green and Black because it is only partially oxidized.

The flavors and aromas of oolong are generally very floral; reminding me of walking through a flower garden on a crisp, warm day.

Most commonly used in the Chinese tea ritual ceremony known as Gongfu, oolong is a another tea I can drink from sun up until about early evening; the only thing lacking here is caffeine content is you use tea as your morning beverage.

Though caffeine isn’t the only source of energy; oolong teas tend to contain a great amount of Polyphenols.

Black Tea

This variety of tea is also incredibly vast in nature; containing the most amount of coffee and bold flavor, black teas are my general “Wake Me Up” teas due to their caffeine content.

Though I prefer my dark roasts and espressos in the Coffee Universe, I usually tend to stray away from black teas. I find this tea the easiest the prepare incorrectly; it is very easy to steep for too long, recently in a bitter flavor.

Black teas are bold, sometimes earthy; you can really taste the influence of the soil.

Coffee Before Bed: Should You Drink At Night Around Bedtime?

Coffee’s caffeine is famous for its ability to wake us up and clear our minds but does it help us sleep?

If you grew up in an Italian family like myself, you’d be accustomed to the traditional after dinner espresso; a drink I’ve always treated as a bit of a Russian Roulette.

Will my night time cup keep me from falling asleep or help me dream tonight?

It’s a bit of a gamble, I’ll be honest; but with a bit of personal exploration and bedtime experimentation, we can at least make progress toward the truth.

Definitely don’t try to see how coffee affects you at night with the World’s Strongest Coffee Death Wish Ground Coffee, The World’s Strongest Coffee, Fair Trade and USDA Certified Organic, 16 Ounce

Everyone’s body is different; therefor making this a bit of a fun journey into who we are.

Consider the prescription of drugs for those experiencing Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and ADHD (Hyperactivity). Adderall, is one of the most widely known stimulants prescribed for these disorders.

But how does a stimulant, something you’d imagine to make you hyperactivity and unfocused, actually help calm those effected?

We’ll leave the neuroscience and brain biochemistry to the scientists but I believe caffeine and coffee’s ability to help or hinder your sleep is dependent on where you fall on this ADD spectrum.

Of course a self-diagnosis holds no weight, but it’s worth the bedtime coffee indulgence at Starbucks.

My last option here is always decaffeinated coffee, which I use as a sort of placebo; telling myself it’s regular coffee — that I will be as productive and focused as I usually am on my favorite brew.

Never underestimate the power of attitude going into a situation. You’re more often than not your own worst enemy.

Yerba Mate: The Super Drink with the “Strength of Coffee, the Health Benefits of Tea, and the Euphoria of Chocolate”

Yerba Mate is the superfood of beverages; supporting mental clarity and an awakened state of mind–it was discovered and consumed by the Guaraní people indigenous to Central and South America.

As an enthusiastic tea and coffee drinker, I was very excited to find Yerba Mate loose leaf in my local grocery store.

Though traditionally made and consumed in a mate gourd, pictured below, I prefer to use a loose leaf tea strainer ball or a french press.

Yerba-Mate-Gourd

Though you can opt for tea bag mate here

Guayaki Traditional Organic Mate Tea, 7.9 oz (225g), 75 Tea Bags

Yerba mate is incredibly enjoyable on the tongue; a quality most healthy consumables lack. I personally find the taste to be similar to some green teas.

In my experience and through research, the only flavor that’s really on a spectrum here is the amount of smokiness from brand to brand; but you can expect a bit of floral flowers on the nose and an earthy aroma.

The perceived mental clarity comes on rather quickly but smoothly; you aren’t flipped on like a switch–instead I find this soothing calm to wash over my head and down my back.

Yerba Mate doesn’t have much caffeine, though it does contain some. The invigorating energy stems from its unique character of polyphenols, one of the three major classes of antioxidants.

This is a drink you can use to relax or get busy working; I personally enjoy the productivity and clear focus Yerba Mate offers.

I very highly recommend trying out this 3-pack of canned and deliciously flavored Yerba Mate for under $5

Blogging 101: How to Grow Your Blog, Gain a Following and Maintain an Audience | Tips and Tricks

You’ve read a couple articles promising followers on Instagram, page likes on Facebook and ad clicks on your website but nothing’s seemed to truly rake in the numbers.

In the beginning, we all get a blank canvas to work with; though this can either be a blessing or a curse for some, let’s do our best to stay focused and stick to the plan.

Everyone will tell you to get a nice DSLR camera (the large fancy ones), a softbox or umbrella for lighting and an expensive microphone since all the big Youtube channels use that, right?

Don’t. Don’t invest all this money behind your name before you have the content to back it up; and the bold truth is this takes work.

This means brainstorming and looking for your next blog post idea or video opportunity.

Though sometimes, the content will come to you, this is a dangerous perspective to hold because it puts your environment in control of you.

Content is King.

For me, this means always carrying around a little notebook or notepad.

Write 10 New / Good Ideas a Day.

This habit is a reliable way to gain a steady following through your innovative content.

Some people will preach SEO (Search Engine Optimization), but even a blog or channel without the content will still fail.

Unfortunately for the lazy, this means starting to get into amateur photography and video.

Today, text articles are very rarely enough.

Formatting Makes You Famous.

Emulate the greats and fake it ’til you make it.

Don’t plagiarize your favorite bloggers and Youtubers, but you need to be fine with using them as inspiration; role models are there to provide guidance.

Time used to perfect your craft is time never wasted.

Always invest in yourself.

Set attainable goals.

Keep it simple.

Learning, Adaptation and Growth: Why Your Ability to Discover is Your Most Desirable Asset

Let’s cut to the chase, you’re not growing if you can’t learn; and you’re not learning if you don’t seek to understand.

In a day and age where information is more readily available than ever, you’d imagine the passion for knowledge to be much better represented than it currently is.

Your yearning to uncover the mysteries of life should become your most valued trait.

Employers don’t want to know how well you can regurgitate the information you already know; there is a much more respectable quality to acquire–the love for the unknown and your capacity to find the answers to the questions you’ve yet to ask.

When you learn to love previously uncomfortable situations, you may come to find yourself better equipped to tackle the obstacles you were once afraid of.

To take a lesson from the Transcendentalists like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Margaret Fuller; challenge yourself to overcome the frontier, the forefront of discover.

Check out Walden (Life in the Woods) by Henry David Thoreau, arguable the most famous and influential figure of the Transcendentalist Movement.

Walden (Life in the Woods)

With an ever increasing amount of information at our disposal, we still find ourselves apathetic to the uncovering of new knowledge.

Your most admirable attribute should become your affection for analyzing problems and unearthing answers.

Consider purchasing this self-help book, Unfu*k Yourself, for more motivational advice on getting inspired to work harder, work smarter and become more productive.

Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and into Your Life

One of the most important things to remember on this journey is questions will always outnumber answers, but this should be more satisfying than discouraging–think of it as job security; you will never plateau and always have more excitement to find.

Productivity: How to use Tea and Coffee to Permanently Establish the Right Attitude, Mindset and Work Ethic

The first thing that comes to mind when I think tea and coffee is–Caffeine, and how widespread this drug is being used in all the wrong ways.

What often happens to coffee and tea drinkers, is they become mentally and habitually  dependent on their morning, afternoon and/or evening beverage of choice.

Herbal Tea does not contain caffeine.

We are discussing caffeinated teas.

What you need to start doing is using caffeine to establish a permanent attitude towards your work and productivity.

Don’t use tea and/or coffee to

  • Wake up
  • Stay awake
  • Relax

Use tea and/or coffee when you are set up and ready to get working–this means dedicating time to tidying up your work-space.

Your desk on caffeine should be as inviting as a well made bed at the end of a long night of drinking.

What we want to do is condition ourselves to be as productive and efficient as possible while experiencing the effects of our beverage.

An incredible selection of different k-cups to try if you’re looking for a new brand of coffee to enjoy.
Coffee Variety Sampler Pack for Keurig K-Cup Brewers, 40 Count (selection may vary)

We want the mindset that for the next 30 to 60 minutes, we are going to work as focused and motivated as possible.

The end goal is retiring the need for coffee and tea, but this is only done through habit and putting effort toward improving our mentality towards work.

Most dreams go to die within the confines of our own mind.

We tell ourselves we’re tired–that we don’t want to work–that we won’t succeed unless we get that extra push.

The pessimistic attitude will never fail to stop our momentum.

My personal favorite green tea, Matcha, is some of the best you can buy.
Jade Leaf Matcha Green Tea Powder – USDA Organic, Authentic Japanese Origin – Classic Culinary Grade (Smoothies, Lattes, Baking, Recipes) – Antioxidants, Energy [30g Starter Size]

We want decaf to be as influential as caffeinated, because drug dependency is only another weight on our shoulders–an anchor preventing you from achieving the goals you set for yourself.

Tai Topez on Entrepreneurs: Why “Reading A Book A Day” isn’t Necessarily the Best Thing You Could Be Doing to Become Successful

The More You Learn, The More You’ll Earn” – Youtuber Tai Lopez says quoting the famously rich Warren Buffet.

The Good Life: Health, Wealth, Love and Happiness.

“This isn’t a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme”

With 70 million views, Tai Lopez’s fame comes from this viral video of him showing off his Lamborghini, then proceeding to brag about his 7 new bookcases he had to install because he’s recently been reading a book a day.

Tai Lopez is nothing more than a meme to the majority of people laughing at his sensationally viral youtube debut, but what sort of truth can be extrapolate from his channel of videos.

I want to clarify that is article isn’t some fanboy advertisement for the youtube star, but he’s a great current and relevant example of someone who preaches this rags to riches story.

Tai preaches this KSE strategy: Knowledge, Strategy, Execution. You can find this information in one of his introductory videos at his Youtube Channel.

Knowledge: Know every facet of the field you’re trying to penetrate

Strategy: Develop an attainable action plan

Execution: Successfully follow through with a well planned out attack on your field of interest.

Instead of reading a book a day, it’s better to read one really specific book in your targeted field a week.

You want to work smarter, not harder.

There won’t be success is reading the wrong books every day.

You need to make a conscious effort to seek the right information.
